SIDNEY – More work has been completed on the Beige Building at the Shelby County Fairgrounds while another proposed project has been shelved for now.
During its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Shelby County Fair Board members learned gutters have been installed on the Beige Building. A new water heater also has been installed to replace the old one that was leaking.
The board has completed several projects at the building during the past several months, including renovation of the restrooms, ceiling and kitchen floors. An Ohio Department of Agriculture grant funded renovations to the building.
Fair Board to demolish Milk House
By Kyle Shaner - kshaner@sidneydailynews.com
SIDNEY – The Shelby County Fair Board voted to demolish the Milkhouse at the fairgrounds following the 2021 fair during its monthly meeting Feb. 17.
As part of the infiltration/inflow project at the fairgrounds, Shelby County Maintenance Supervisor Chris Roediger said, it needs to be decided where sewer taps will be located. To remain operational, the Milkhouse would need a sewer tap.
Citing the board’s long-term plan to eliminate the Milkhouse and the fact that not many people use it, Aaron Heilers suggested the board should demolish it instead of spending more money on it.
Cattle weigh-in procedures change for 2021 fair
By Kyle Shaner - kshaner@sidneydailynews.com
SIDNEY – Cattle weigh-in procedures will change for the 2021 Shelby County Fair, the Fair Board learned during the Dec. 16 monthly meeting.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, exhibitors will be given a tag for their cattle instead of having a traditional weigh-in day, Fair Board member Cathy Platfoot reported. Exhibitors then will need to submit photographs along with their entries.
The new system is similar to how Auglaize and Logan counties are handling tagging, Platfoot said, and also is in line with procedures used for other species of animals at the Shelby County Fair.
