The Kirksville boys wrestling team sent four athletes to Columbia for the Class 2 Boys State Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 21 and 22. Sophomore Austyn Hunter and junior Jaden Crisp wrestled deep into the final day of the tournament and earned medals, with Hunter placing third at 138 and Crips placing sixth at 113.
The Kirksville boys wrestling had a strong showing at the Class 2 District 2 Tournament on Feb. 16 and 17 in Boonville. They left the tournament with two district champions, a fourth-place team finish and a group of four wrestlers heading to the State Tournament.
Kirksville senior wrestler Lane Patterson had good timing for his milestone achievement in the tri meet with Battle and Macon on Thursday night. On a night that already featured senior night festivities and the induction of the inaugural class of the Kirksville Wrestling Hall of Fame, Patterson added to the celebration by recording his 100th career pin at the varsity level.
The brand new wrestling program at William Woods College signed on a brand new wrestler on Tuesday. Kirksville junior Lane Patterson signed his letter to William Woods in the Kirksville High School Library with family, friends, teammates and coaches in attendance.
