The Iowa State Patrol says 46-year-old James Bartels, who was driving a Hyundai Accent, failed to slow down when he drove into congested traffic on the interstate. The Patrol says Bartels hit a Ford SUV driven by Roger Lear of Waterloo. Lear s SUV then hit a Chevy Pick-up driven by David Hobbs of Ankeny. The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. near Altoona.
