Thursday, April 1, 2021 The pandemic has changed Charlotte’s Center City. Businesses have closed, and office workers have been slow to return. It was a ghost town for the bulk of the pandemic, but signs of life are beginning to emerge. After Gov. Roy Cooper s Executive Order No. 204, many restrictions are now easing, including allowing for indoor capacity to be at 75% at restaurants, breweries and gyms, and 100% capacity outdoors for those businesses. Bars and movie theatres can have up to 50% capacity for both indoors and outdoors. In short: Businesses are now allowed to have more customers and things are starting to look up. ....
A vaccine dose is drawn into a syringe by a health care worker. Many of North Carolina’s frontline essential workers are frustrated with waiting on the COVID-19 vaccine. An estimated 240,000 educators and school staff are eligible for vaccinations starting Wednesday, but postal workers, grocery store employees, restaurant staff and other workers can’t get appointments until at least March 10. “I think the grocery industry should have gotten theirs right after the doctors and nurses,” said Loc Tran, who owns Giant Penny, a grocery store northeast of uptown Charlotte. He said hundreds of customers shop at his store each day and business has seen a 50% bump since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
