Right now all indicators are that this is the work of extremist elements, those that really ultimately came into the being after the fall of president morsi. so a lot of people are saying sths as a result of what happened back in june with the removal of the president morsi. but today s attacks were extremely symbolic. they happened on third anniversary of the january 25th revolution and happened in the heart of cairo targeting buildings that were supposed to be particularly the headquarters supposed to be heavily guarded. they carry not only a strategic significance but symbolic one. the pictures we re showing show devastation from these bombings. how do they get through the security perimeter to attack these targets? that s the question that s going to be on minds of officials. there have been right now closed circuit footage released and nbc has not been able to independently verify it. it shows two vehicles pulling up outside of the security headquarters at 6:30 a.m. this ....
When you ask today where s the proof it works, where s the proof you have influence, you mostly get silence? sahar, as you talk about this sort of unprecedented polarized environment there, i just have to ask you just more on a personal note. you re a mother. you go back every year. how do you explain to your children, and how would you like to ultimately explain to your children what egypt is? well, i think that s an excellent point. because my children were with me when i was there this past month. and they were also with me when i was protesting in front of the white house in opposition to mubarak and in support of the january 25th revolution. and so these last two or three years have been a very good lesson for them in democracy. and when we were in egypt, they immediately noted the presence of soldiers right after july 3rd. and they asked me, why are there all of these men with guns everywhere? when i explained to them what had happened, my 9-year-old daughter asked me curious ....
Protection of the minority rules. we have now, as you know, quite a lot of violence between christians and muslims, which should not happen, but it s the result of many factors of 60 years of repression and total chaos. people now, after the revolution, think revolution means chaos. right now socially we are disintegraing. economically we are not in the best shape. and politically, it s like a black hole. we do not know where we are headed. are you hopeful still that egypt s revolution will be successful and that it will be a model for the arab world? well, philosophically, if you look to other revolutions, there is always bumps in the road. i believe and i would like to believe that we will go in the right direction, but we ll have to do a lot of work to make sure that we learn from other revolutions. we learn from our own mistakes. ....
Parliament that does not represent the different, you know, hues of the egyptian so t society, and that will not really be the kind of egypt people want to achieve. should the united states be playing a more active role in helping egypt at this point, or would that be interference? well, it depends what you talk about. i mean, egypt needs economic assistance, advice on how to again, economically, we are we have 5 million people who are unemployed. there will be 7.5, i think, in six months. people are afraid that we will have another revolution which is revolt of the poor. i mean, the revolution was a revolt for human dignity and freedom. we need a quick infusion of money. the u.s. and others can show their models of how you build up a full-fledged democracy. as in everywhere, you build a ....
Media on these issues has forced the supreme council, military forces, the armed forces to take another look at why are they going to the military trials and to say, okay, maybe we need to take a step back and not put civilians on trial. sarah, is there a danger that the egyptian people, they re going to say, you know what, we ve had it, we ve had enough of these protests. we want a normal life. the economy is doing badly. we don t need another revolution right now. actually, i think that this is already happening. as i mentioned before, the military is using the media, you know, to get people to think that there s no security in egypt. and they re making the people think by certain media messages that the economy is going downhill, not because of anything but these protests. and these are these protesters and these revolutionaries are the ones ....
