Police denies involvement in Taiwo Kajogbola's death, explains how victim was killed

The Osun State Police Command has denied the culpability of its personnel in the death of a motorcyclist, Taiwo Kajogbola as alleged.
In a press release signed by Yemisi Opalola, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, and made available to DAILY POST, the Police Command acknowledged that their attention had been drawn to the video of an accident being circulated on social media that a police vehicle killed a male motorcyclist named Taiwo Kajogbola.
The Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode revealed that what led to the death of the young man was a collision between him and an oncoming vehicle. ....

The State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje gave the directive during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held at the Africa House, Government House, Kano.
Malam Garba explained that the decision followed a successful fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state in the last three months.
The commissioner also stated that permanent secretaries and heads of extra ministerial department and agencies are, by this directive, requested to ensure that there is compliance to government COVID-19 protocols and regulations in their work places. ....

Police rescues two kidnap victims, recovers N200,000 in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has rescued two of the three persons abducted on Sunday along Ahor bypass, on the Benin-Lagos Road.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Kontongs Bello, identified the two victims as Okeke Emmanuel ‘m’ age 37 and Rilwan Adewale ‘m’ age 36.
The victims who were travelling in a Sienna bus from Port Harcourt, Rivers, to Lagos State were abducted on April 25 along Ahor bypass and were taken into the bush.
“On receipt of the information, the police operatives immediately swung into action and rescued two of the victims after an exchange of gun battle with the hoodlums. ....

JUSUN strike: Edo Judiciary suspends court sittings

The Edo Judiciary says it has suspended regular Monday court sittings in the state, in solidarity with the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria’s (JUSUN) ongoing nationwide industrial action.
Recall that the JUSUN had embarked on a nationwide strike on April 6, to protest against years of financial strangulation.
The industrial action was to push for the implementation of financial autonomy in the judiciary in all the 36 states and FCT.
DAILY POST reported that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) also joined the striking JUSUN in solidarity to push for financial autonomy for the judiciary.
The Edo chapter of JUSUN had shunned the strike called by the national body citing a “no work, no pay” policy that cost them their salaries in 2015. ....

Suspected drunk driver kills one in Anambra - Daily Post Nigeria

The man died after a suspected drunk driver lost control and rammed into another vehicle.
Mr Andrew Kumapayi, FRSC Sector Commander, who confirmed the incident, said the crash involved an unidentified driver of a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ENU544YA and an unidentified driver of the Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration number JJT677JT.
An eyewitness told NAN that the Mitsubishi bus driver, who was suspected to be drunk lost control of his vehicle, left his lane and collided with the Hiace bus.
Kumapayi also confirmed that thirteen persons were involved in the crash, but twelve persons sustained injuries and were rushed to Apex hospital Igbo Ukwu. ....
