The 31-year-old surfer is now recovering following the California great white shark attack. A great white shark attack was reported in a beach in Ferndale, California, involving a surfer named Michael 'Jared' Trainor, 31, who drove to the beach back on October 2.

Trainor has a "long recovery" ahead after being bitten by a great white shark while surfing alone.

Trainor said he somehow landed back on his board during the attack. He said he didn't know it was a shark at the time, but he fought back by kicking it in the head.
