DNF a Race - Why You Should Almost Always Finish Your Races

MediaNews Group/Boston Herald via Getty Images If you think about it, racing is a strange thing to do for fun. Hang by the infield trash cans at a youth track meet, find a spot deep into a hilly cross-country course, or stand near the finish chute of a marathon, and the disconnect will be hard to miss. What other avocation regularly causes its enthusiasts to redline, collapse, vomit, or worse? For many of us, the suffering is part of the appeal. We spend so much of our lives chasing comfort and convenience that doing something contrary to that is uniquely satisfying and sometimes addicting.

The 2020 LetsRun.com Awards Are Here: Best Runner, Best Comeback, Biggest Disappointment, Most Inspirational & More December 30, 2020 The strangest year in running any of us has ever seen is almost over. And unlike a few other noted publications, we waited until the very end of 2020 to hand out our year-end awards (since this was one of the busiest Decembers ever from a running perspective). In this year of woe, there were highs (the Olympic Marathon Trials, Monaco Diamond League, London Marathon) and lows (pretty much everything else that happened in 2020). Yet despite the cancellation/postp...

Six Final Thoughts About The Marathon Project: 2:09 Isn’t 2:09 Anymore, Des Linden Says America Needs to Join the 2:19 Party, & More December 22, 2020 The Marathon Project is in the books, and with it, the 2020 racing season. It was an event American marathoners (and marathon fans) were desperate for after a year rocked by COVID-19, and it was a staggering success. Nothing can replicate the energy, importance, and emotions of the Olympic Marathon Trials held earlier this year, but this was the closest an American event has come to those feelings since that blustery day in Atlanta 10 months ...

RRW: The Marathon Project Delivers Fast Times, Great Racing

RRW: The Marathon Project Delivers Fast Times, Great Racing By David Monti, @d9monti (c) 2020 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved (20-Dec) — In this pandemic year marked by so much pain, struggle and loss, The Marathon Project today in Chandler, Ariz., provided a much-needed high note before 2020 passes into infamy, at least for fans of distance running.  Today’s elite-only race –bootstrapped by Josh Cox, Ben Rosario and Matt Helbig– ended up being one of the best-ever marathons on U.S. soil for North American athletes, punctuated by exciting victories for Sara Hall (2:20:32) an...

The Marathon Project Was a Predictable Thrill - Vimarsana News

The Marathon Project Was a Predictable Thrill

In an otherwise meager year for distance running, the purpose of The Marathon Project, which took place yesterday on the outskirts of Chandler, Arizona, was to give some of the fastest American marathoners (and a few international competitors) an opportunity to rip on a flat course before the onset of what promises to be a very long winter.  And rip they did. Even though none of the podium finishers from last February’s U.S. Olympic Trials took part in the race, there were some all-time performances in the Arizona desert. The 37-year-old Sara Hall—who was 33 before she first broke 2:30, ...
