New owners start new chapter in former school in Scranton
The new owner of the former Scranton School for the Deaf cut the ribbon Tuesday afternoon, beginning a new chapter for the century-old property.

SCRANTON, Pa. As the former Scranton School for the Deaf sat on the market, many worried about the historic property s future, including the owner, Marywood University.
But Marywood President Sister Mary Persico cut the ribbon on the school s next chapter. The place has been sold to the Jarett Yoder Foundation and will become the Patriot Resource Center at Marywood. ....

Veterans group buys former school in Scranton

After being on the market for more than five years, the former Scranton School for the Deaf has been sold. The campus will be taken over by a veterans charity. ....

Longswamp hosts Santa visit

Longswamp Township hosted its annual Tree Lighting with Santa at Longswamp Park on Dec. 4.
Christmas caroling led by Allen Sacks and his family opened the event. Santa arrived on a Topton fire truck for children to get their pictures taken with him.
This was a way Longswamp Township Parks and Recreation could give to our community for the holidays, said Leann Sacks, Mertztown, a member of the Longswamp Parks and Recreation Committee.

Families registered in advance to participate in the event. Upon arrival, temperatures were taken. Families entered one way and left another way.
One family at a time entered the room and was given cookies in a bag and ice cream. They got their pictures taken with Santa and free pictures were sent to them in a email, Sacks said. ....
