Ealing's LTNs set for changes before permanent decision made

Ealing’s controversial Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) are set for a number of changes, including replacing bollards with number plate recognition cameras.
The adjustments were confirmed after an interim assessment of the schemes in December by Ealing Council, and will be made in the coming month.
The purpose of the assessment’s recommendations is to improve LTNs in the borough before a final decision is made on whether they should become a permanent feature.
Jasbir Anand, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for environment and climate emergency, said: “There are strong opinions on LTNs, both for and against and although they were rapidly introduced to meet government funding requirements, we want to ensure everyone has their say. ....

Walk and cycle to save lives, suggests Ealing councillor

Jasbir Anand is the Ealing Council cabinet member for environment and climate emergency.
Proposed travel schemes announced this week are likely to ease pressure on public transport amid the pandemic, but the councillor also wants to protect air quality in the borough.
Anand said: We want to make our roads safer and more attractive for walking and cycling so that Ealing can do its bit to tackle the climate emergency.
“We are fully aware people have strong opinions on schemes such as Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, both for and against, which is why it remains vital that everyone has their say via our Commonplace website throughout the consultation and trial periods for current Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.” ....
