Aiken Corporation takes step on downtown mixed-use building

The Aiken Corporation took a step Wednesday morning that allows the city to build a downtown mixed-use building in which the Savannah River National Laboratory could lease space. The corporation s board voted unanimously to approve an agreement with the city that outlines the role the corporation will play in the construction of the building.

West Aiken Parker s Kitchen could get bigger sign

The Parker s Kitchen being constructed on the former Dick Smith property west of Aiken is eight weeks from opening and the store may get a bigger sign than allowed by Aiken s zoning ordinance. The Aiken Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the Aiken City Council approve a waiver to allow the store to have a sign that is 100 square feet in size along the Jefferson Davis Highway (US Routes 1/78).
