Seats up for grabs on Gainesville City Council, Dora, Thornfield school districts

Tuesday will be Election Day for municipal races in Missouri, but Gainesville residents and voters in the Dora and Thornfield school districts still have an opportunity to cast an absentee ballot. According to the Ozark County Times, the Ozark County Clerk’s Office will be open Monday from 8 to 5 for any looking to vote absentee.
Tuesday’s polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters deciding on the Gainesville City Council race will cast their ballots in the Ozark County Courthouse. Incumbent East Ward Alderman Dana Crisp is being challenged by Debbie Miller. Shane Ledbetter did not refile for his West Ward seat, and no other candidate has filed. Residents of the ward may opt to write in a name for the seat. ....

Over the past few years, Sun has been one of the more outspoken companies against abusing the patent system, with former CEO Jonathan Schwartz explaining that real companies innovate, not litigate. However, Sun and its patents are now owned by Oracle, and apparently Larry Ellison feels otherwise. Oracle is now suing Google for patent infringement, using a bunch of patents that Sun owns around Java, claiming that Google s Android implementation of Java is done without a license. This is a bit surprising, really, as big Silicon Valley tech companies don t often get into patent battles with each other and, historically, when they do launch such patent attacks, it s usually a sign of something bigger being wrong with the company. Oracle announced the availability of Java 16 (Oracle JDK 16), including 17 new enhancements to the platform that will further improve developer productivity. The latest Java Development Kit (JDK) finalized Pattern Matching for instanceof (JEP 394) and Records (JEP 395), language enhancements that were first previewed in Java 14. Additionally, developers can use the new Packaging Tool (JEP 392) to ship self-contained Java applications, as well as explore three incubating features, the Vector API (JEP 338), the Foreign Linker API (JEP 389), and the Foreign-Memory Access API (JEP 389), and one preview feature, Sealed Classes (JEP 397).
