Even rich countries have often struggled to roll out vaccines but in the Global South, things are much worse. In Pakistan, access to jabs has so far been limited to healthcare workers and people over 50. As of March 2021, an average of 0.2 doses had been administered for every 100 people in Pakistan, strikingly lower than the regional average for Asia (4.5 doses for every 100 people). ....

Kids who grow up with a big sister may be more successful in life, a new study suggests. Having a big brother, not so much.
Researchers studying toddlers and their older siblings found that big sisters were far more likely than big brothers to spend time playing with and reading to their younger sibs, activities that promote child development, according to a new report published as a working paper through the Center for Global Development in Washington, D.C.

Full disclosure: As someone who grew up the big sister to a brother, I have a bit of a stake in the subject of this article. It s a new study that suggests big sisters can make a powerful difference for their younger siblings.
But there s no such personal angle for the authors of the study: economists Pamela Jakiela and Owen Ozier of Williams College in Massachusetts. No! I m an only child, Jakiela says with a chuckle. And Owen is an older brother.
