ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. Weeks of protests in Elizabeth City expanded across the state of North Carolina Tuesday night.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.  Reverend Javan Leach is pastor at Mt. Lebanon AME Zion Church. He’s been preaching for 13 years.
His church is located about a mile from where Andrew Brown Jr. was killed on April 21.
During the city’s unrest, Leach has been focused on listening to the community. He says he has marched with protesters to listen to their message.
“Most of the people in our community are just numb… because this is a within itself, and it’s all over and it’s resurfaced,” said Leach when speaking about colorism. ....

The body-camera footage of police fatally shooting Andrew Brown Jr., a Black man in Elizabeth City, N.C., will not be released to the public but will be disclosed to Brown’s family, a judge ruled Wednesday, following days of outcry and protests over an encounter with unanswered questions.
Superior Court Judge Jeff Foster ruled against a petition filed by a coalition of media outlets, including The Washington Post, to release the footage of the fatal police encounter involving Brown, 42, on April 21. Foster said the decision was based on the release of the video potentially affecting a trial if one occurs and possibly jeopardizing the safety of the deputies in question. ....
