Early voting for the June Primary Election in Illinois begins tomorrow, but Wayne and some surrounding counties still have outstanding objections for their ballots, including for House District 116. Early voting hours at the Wayne County Courthouse will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays from tomorrow through June 17th, but any early vote scanned into the polling machine will be final, even if the ballot later changes. 40-year-old Mt. Vernon resident Eric W. Jones and 34-year-old Missouri resident Zachary J. Wheeler were arrested Monday by Wayne County deputies and Fairfield police. Jones was wanted on a Wayne County failure to appear warrant for battery, and Wheeler was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession and possession with intent to deliver between 15 and 100 grams of methamphetamine. White County Circuit Judge T. Scott Webb has again ruled Illinois’ FOID card is unconstitutional, setting the stage for the state Supreme Court to again examine the matter. In 2017, Vivian Brown was charged with violating the FOID card law by owning a rifle without a card; White County sided with her then, but, after an appeal to the Supreme Court, it opted not to make a decision last year.
