Northern Star DeKALB – Derek Chauvin was recently convicted on three counts and sentenced to up to 40 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd, and many Black Americans are feeling relieved and hopeful for the future. “I certainly believe that justice has been served,” said Jaylan Peebles, president of NIU’s Black Student Union. “It is a huge step in the right direction, but this can not be an end-all, be-all.
