As the death toll in the hooch tragedy in Nawada district of Bihar climbed to 14, since Holi, and preliminary investigations indicated consumption of spurious liquor, the spotlight is back on the Nitish Kumar government’s determined push to implement prohibition in the face of recalcitrant alcoholics unwilling to kick the habit. The deceased in the Nawada tragedy are believed to have consumed locally made spurious liquor on the eve of Holi. While three persons died a day after the festival, the others succumbed over the next few days.
