The Central Ohio Transit Authority, or COTA, is launching a new digital fare payment system.

As a first step to phasing out diesel vehicles, the Central Ohio Transit Authority announced its first electrified buses. The transit agency said that it plans to remove all diesel vehicles by 2025.

The Central Ohio Transit Authority will stop running diesel-powered buses by 2025 and will implement eight more electric buses next summer. There are approximately 700 electric transit vehicles currently operating in the U.S.

COTA also announced the return of ‘Zoo Bus,’ this summer. ‘Zoo Bus’ transports people between downtown Columbus and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Zoombezi Bay. Starting May 8, ‘Zoo Bus’ will be in service every weekend in May through Memorial Day, then daily through Labor Day. For more information, head to COTA.com.
