A Tidworth man has been banned from driving and fined hundreds of pounds after being almost three times the drink drive limit. Jason Tilling, of Normandy Road, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Salisbury Magistrate s Court on Friday 12 February. He was disqualified from driving for 36 months and fined £730. Officers said that “the result of his actions could have been far more serious” had he not been stopped at the time. At 12.45am on November 28 last year, police were concerned about the driving of a Vauxhall Insignia on Normandy Road, causing them to pull the vehicle over. The driver, Tilling, failed a roadside breathalyser and was arrested and taken to Melksham Police Station where he provided a reading nearly three times the legal limit.
POLICE arrested more than 50 people and seized more than 50 vehicles in just two weeks of a crackdown on dangerous drivers. In response to community concerns raised during lockdown, officers carried out more checks to ensure vehicles on Wiltshire s roads are legal and the drivers are in a fit state to be behind the wheel. Between January 15 and February 1, 23 people have been arrested for drink driving and 25 for drug driving. Police handed out five fixed penalty notices and 35 traffic offence reports during speed-watch patrols as well as summoning two drivers to court. Of the 56 vehicles seized, 53 had no insurance, plus 12 others were stopped because they were not in a roadworthy state.
