The Edwards County Coroner's and Sheriff's offices are investigating a fatal accident that occurred late yesterday afternoon between West Salem and the Little Wabash River Bridge. A Lawrence County woman, whose name was not released, lost control of her SUV, overcorrected, and went down a deep embankment and into backwater. Last week, Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith formally asked for assistance from the USDA to help bring about the return of a lake at Lakeside. He says retired engineer Jerry Quindry has been a great asset, and the application, in part, is to compile the work that was done in previous attempts to restore the lake. He says that alone will not solve flooding along Johnson Creek, so the City is investigating other possibilities to slow water down north of the lake, possibly at Atkinson Forest.
