Another Clovis Wildcat says he'll be a Lobo

The Clovis-to-Albuquerque football pipeline keeps on flowing.
On Tuesday, Clovis High linebacker Ernesto Acuña became the third Wildcat off this year’s team to commit to the University of New Mexico.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior outside linebacker joins Jaden Phillips and Jeston Webskowski as future Lobos.
“I felt like it was the best fit for me,” Acuña said, adding that he’ll sign in the coming days with UNM. “(The Lobos) are going in the right direction, and I wanted to be a part of that.”

Acuña, a quick and hard-hitting linebacker, had offers from Eastern New Mexico, New Mexico Military Institute and Aurora University in Illinois. ....

The principals of Albuquerque’s 13 public high schools still don’t know if any of their fall sports teams will have a season this spring.
Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Scott Elder met with them on Tuesday.
“As things stand currently, they might be told they can’t play fall sports,” Elder told the Journal in an interview. “As of today, we wouldn’t make it.”
The APS board meets next on Feb. 17. Elder said there is a qualifier to Tuesday’s meeting – “that we are working towards a plan that perhaps will be acceptable to allow kids to play.”

Details of the plan are unknown, but Elder did say it would be presented during the board meeting next week. ....

Lobo football: No Wednesday signees, but two transfers are enrolled

University of New Mexico football coach Danny Gonzales is not allowed to talk about recruits who haven’t signed with the Lobos per NCAA rules. However, his comments Wednesday could leave the majority to connect the dots to a pair of Clovis players who have reportedly received offers from UNM.
Clovis running back Jeston Webskowski and linebacker Ernesto Acuna said on Twitter Tuesday night they were each offered a scholarship to play for the Lobos. Defensive end/linebacker Jaden Phillips of Clovis was among 21 signees for the Lobos in December.
There were no UNM signings to announce Wednesday, but there could be recruiting news in the coming days. ....
