Rameshwar Oraon RANCHI: Ahead of its second budget during the Covid-19 pandemic, the grand alliance government in the state said the common people will not be burdened unlike the Union Budget. Talking to TOI, state finance minister and Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Rameshwar Oraon said he will table a pro-people budget on March 3. Dubbing the Union Budget as pro-capitalist, Oraon said, “As a finance minister, I am not supposed to speak about the budget in detail before it is tabled in the assembly, but I can assure the people of this state that unlike the Union Budget, the state’s budgetary provisions will be in the larger interest of the population. Since our state and its people are already battling with financial and other woes, the government will aim to provide relief to every section of society.”

Ranchi: A delegation of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) met chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday and submitte.
Ranchi: The Hemant Soren government rehired Ernst & Young (EY), a consultancy firm, for drawing investments into the state after the firm’s contract, drawn in 2016 by the erstwhile Raghubar Das government, ended in 2019. The appointment of EY was approved by the state department of industries in November last year. The team will comprise at least 10 expert consultants and has started working from February 15. The tenure of engagement of the consultancy is one year when government will pay the firm approximately Rs 4.34 crore. EY had assisted the Das government in hosting Momentum Jharkhand Global Investors’ Summit in 2017, the agriculture and food processing summit in 2018. The firm had also helped the Das government in setting up overseas meetings with prospective investors in the USA, China and Singapore and host road shows in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata in the run up to the summit. The firm’s contract with the state industries department ended in late 2019.
Dumka: Traders and industrialists have advocated for amendments to the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act (SPT Act) to ensure overall development of the tribal heartland. On Sunday, the Santhal Paragana unit of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) conducted a meeting in Deoghar where all the attendees batted for amendments to the act. “Unless the SPT Act is amended, industrial growth is not possible in Santhal Pargana,” Alok Mallik, vice president of the FJCCI Santhal Pargana regional committee, said. FJCCI president Pravin Jain, who also attended the meeting, said that development in Santhal Pargana – which covers six districts -- is only possible with trade and industrialization. “The proposed international airport in Deoghar, which will start operating soon, will result in considerable rise in business activities not only in Santhal Pargana but also in its adjoining parts. It is high time that the state government set up infrastructural facilities to exploit the vast potential of that region,” he said, adding that the area be declared as a ‘Special Economic Zone’.

Ranchi: Prashant Kumar Singh cannot remember the last time when his single-screen theatre in Dhanbad was filled with viewers as his property has been closed since March when the Covid-induced lockdown was announced. The Puja Talkies owner isn’t even sure if at all he’ll get to entertain movie-goers again since he is considering to down shutters permanently unless the state government allows them to reopen. Singh, who is also the secretary of Jharkhand Cinema Exhibitor Association, said a similar fate awaits around 15 single screen halls in the state. “Single screen halls were already facing stiff competition from multiplexes and OTT platforms. The lockdown proved to be the last nail in the coffin,” he added.
