State University of New York Chancellor Jim Malatras said Thursday that he is resigning, effective Jan. 14. It comes as Malatras was facing mounting pressure to exit after state Attorney General Tish James found he tried to discredit a colleague in former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.
It comes in the wake of controversy over texts he sent to former Gov. Cuomo's inner circle.
James Malatras submitted his letter of resignation to the SUNY Board of Trustees as calls grew on him to leave office for his actions as one of Cuomo's aids in 2019 against Lindsey Boylan.
