BIRMINGHAM — During a recent Birmingham City Commission meeting, the commission passed a resolution directing the Engineering Department to proceed with the final design of the Westwood, Raynale and Oak Street project to include sewer and water improvements.
Birmingham residents are awaiting another South Old Woodward reconstruction project. Traffic tie-ups are due from about mid-May through mid-October.
The third 2022 phase means new underground infrastructure and streetscaping. Similar to the first two phases, design features will include: Curb bump-outs at intersections to improve crosswalks for pedestrians, mid-block crosswalks, raised planter beds and landscape features; Enhancements such as exposed aggregate concrete, granite bench seating areas, new streetlights, and cellphone charging stations.
