(Omaha, NE) Polls have just closed in the City of Omaha, where voters are choosing 7 city councilmembers and a mayor. Current Republican mayor Jean Stothert is seeking an unprecedented third term against Democratic real estate broker RJ Neary.
Some background on tonight s race: Mayor Stothert won last month s primary with 57 percent of the vote. Neary finished in second with 16 percent.
Mayor Stothert is a former critical care nurse who served on the Millard school board for 12 years, and the Omaha City Council for 4 years. She was first elected mayor in 2013, defeating incumbent Democrat Jim Suttle.
Neary has not previously run for elected office, but he has previously served on Omaha s planning board and has been involved in the community for decades as a commercial developer. He defeated three other Democrats to win the second spot in this general election. ....

A scholarship at Metropolitan Community College will honor Amber Suttle Tjaden, the daughter of former Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle and his wife Deb, a former Nebraska State Senator, according to a news release on behalf of the Suttle family.Tjaden was Director of the Gateway to College program at the college, and spent more than 20-years as a special education teacher in Omaha Public Schools.The 48-year-old died in February of cold exposure. (Omaha, NE) Polls are open from 8am to 8pm tomorrow in a highly competitive mayoral election. Here are the candidates who are running to lead our city.
Jean Stothert is the incumbent mayor, running for a third term. She was a nurse and nursing supervisor who served on the Millard School Board and the Omaha City Council before being elected mayor in 2013. She is running on a public safety-centered platform, touting her expansion of the police force and work on reforming the department. Stothert has released a pandemic recovery strategy to expand police recruitment and ensure equitable distribution of federal aid money. Stothert has earned the endorsement of the Omaha Police Union. Amber Tjaden Found Dead Near Jaguar SUV In Rural Nebraska

A missing Nebraska community college instructor was found frozen to death on the side of a rural road just over a week after she vanished.
Authorities recovered Amber Tjaden s body from a remote maintenance road near Unadilla, Nebraska on Feb. 5, Otoe County Sheriff’s Office said. The 48-year-old died of “cold exposure,” according to a preliminary autopsy report. Her SUV was found nearby. Foul play isn’t suspected in her death, authorities said.
“At this time, there does not appear to be any crime committed in Otoe County,” Sheriff Colin Caudill told
Oxygen.com on Monday.
Tjaden was first reported missing on Jan. 27. On Friday, a passerby notified law enforcement after spotting her 2019 Jaguar F-Pace SUV parked on the shoulder of the road. ....
