The New Jersey Department of Agriculture is looking forward to the 2022 NEPC show as New England is the second largest market for Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables outside of the immediate tri-state market of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
New Jersey continues to be one of the leading states in produce safety. In fact, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture carries out approximately 100 produce safety inspections, educational on farm readiness reviews, and 175 USDA third-party audits annually.
HILLSDALE, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Agriculture hosted the May 24 meeting of the Eastern Produce Council, here, at Demarest Farms, and as is in previous years, Jersey Fresh held a starring role. Each year, the NJDA uses the event to feature its popular Jersey Fresh marketing program, now in its 38th year, making it the oldest state-sponsored program of its kind.
While the New Jersey Department of Agriculture works for the best interests of New Jersey growers, it’s also heavily invested in its close neighbor, Philadelphia. “New Jersey and Philadelphia’s fruit and vegetable inspectors work in conjunction,” said Joe Atchison, NJDA’s director of marketing and development division. “Philadelphia inspectors inspect produce in New Jersey as needed and produce is sent to the state to be re-inspected and repacked.”
The New Jersey Department of Agriculture, which works to develop relationships with members from all sectors of the agricultural industry —from growers to processors to retailers — will be an exhibitor at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association Conference and Trade Show in Montreal as it does each time the show is held in Eastern Canada.
