SunStar + June 03, 2021 THE Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has recommended the filing of murder charges against four suspects in the killing of lawyer Joey Luis Wee. They are John Raymond Cabantao Suarez, Randy Benito Palparan alias “Jake,” Manuelito Melia Camacho alias “Monching” and one John Doe. National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 Director Rennan Augustus Oliva told reporters that they received a copy of the resolution on the murder complaint filed by Wee’s wife, lawyer Marilevi Wee, against the four men on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. In December 2020, the NBI 7 also filed cases against Suarez, Palparan, three John Does and Fausto Edgar Benigno Peralta. ....
SunStar + February 02, 2021 THE Office of Cebu City Prosecutor upheld the recommendation of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 to file murder charges against Ret. Col. Edwin Layese for his alleged participation as the mastermind and/or contractor of the shooting incident that killed lawyer Joey Luis Wee. Lawyer Rennan Augustus Oliva, NBI 7 director, said they received a copy of the case information dated Jan. 29, 2021, on Monday afternoon, Feb. 1. He said this is a very good development and said even the petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus filed by Layese s counsel was denied by the court. Writ of Habeas Corpus is used to bring a detainee before the court to determine if his detention is lawful. ....
January 18, 2021 THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is now in possession of electronic evidence that will help identify the mastermind behind the murder of lawyer Joey Luis Wee. NBI 7 Director Renan Oliva said cellular phones were recovered from retired Colonel Edwin Layese, the alleged contractor hired to execute the murder of Wee last November. Layese was arrested by NBI 7 agents in Cebu City on Jan. 13, 2021. He was a former director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Western Visayas and a former member of the Philippine Army. He is currently a security officer of a business establishment at the Cebu Business Park. ....
