A mixture of relief and gratitude greeted Warren Township High School District 121 Superintendent John Ahlgrim late Tuesday night after it became clear that voters had approved the long-sought tax rate hike.

Gurnee Mayor Tom Hood gave an enthusiastic endorsement this week to the Warren Township High School District 121's proposed property tax hike, which district leaders say is necessary to avoid significant programming cuts, including to student athletics.

Despite anti-mask mandate protests lead by high school students in Mundelein, Gurnee, Libertyville and Vernon Hills, school officials said they will keep masking policies in effect.

The first full year Warren High School's $7.3 million solar panels at its Almond Campus were operational, the district made back roughly $1.2 million in rebates and energy credit sales, netting around $215,639 in energy cost savings.
