The Murfreesboro Planning Commission approved last Wednesday the street name change of a two-mile segment of Mercury Boulevard to Doctor Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard.
The Murfreesboro Planning Commission delayed a vote about changing the name of Mercury Boulevard to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for two weeks after a lengthy discussion to keep or drop the doctoral title. As stated in previous meetings, a two-mile section of Mercury Boulevard would become Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and a 600-foot stretch of road beyond South Rutherford would take on the name John Bragg Highway.
