Pequot War Send to Google Classroom: The Pequot War (1636-1638) was a conflict between the Native American Pequot tribe of modern-day Connecticut and the English immigrants who had established settlements in New England between 1620-1630. The immediate cause of the war was the murder of two English traders, Captain John Stone (d. 1634) and John Oldham (l. 1592-1636), allegedly by the Western Niantic tribe, allies and tributaries of the Pequot.
