According to an email sent out to all flight instructors and students by Dick Schultz, director of flight operations, the aviation department continued its “safety stand down” on Wednesday, following a plane crash on Monday in which UND student John Hauser was killed. The university grounded all flights on Tuesday. Dual flight training will resume on Thursday, and solo flight training is expected to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

John Hauser, a 19-year-old student at the University of North Dakota, has died in a plane crash. The actual cause for the crash is yet to be determined.

On Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., students were greeted by UND administrators as they entered the ballroom and took places at the dozens of tables set up for the event. It was a solemn occasion, as students quietly talked among themselves. There were no speakers or formal agenda for the event. It was a chance for people to remember Hauser and relate with others the feelings they had about Monday’s deadly crash. The gathering was followed by a vigil held outside the Delta Tau Delta fraternity across University Avenue from the Memorial Union.
