Published 10:33 am UTC May. 3, 2021 John Laddison was accused of shooting a 19-year-old white woman in her home on Nov. 24, 1901, according to news archives. The incident took place in Rock Mills Township in the central-western part of the county near the Savannah River. Laddison ran after the Saturday incident and allegedly surrendered himself the next day. He admitted to injuring the woman, and at least 200 people gathered outside the woman's house after he was found, according to an Anderson Intelligencer article from Nov. 27, 1901.
