Hong Kong Racing Tips: Fortune has a Brilliant chance Caspar Fownes' yard seems to be back in form. IT WAS good to see trainer Caspar Fownes finally break his run of bad fortune when saddling an early double at Sha Tin on Sunday.  Fownes had suffered a torrid time in the past month, with a long losing sequence of 63 and being overtaken in the trainers’ championship by John Size.  With the stable now back amongst the winners again, expect Fownes to start firing on all cylinders, especially at his favourite track where he has already saddled 31 winners this season.  With a...

IF THERE is one horse who you can guarantee the local racing population will have their eye on it is the undisputed champion Golden Sixty who lines-up in the Champions Mile (8.55am). Ranked joint-fifth in the world’s best racehorses, the Francis Lui-trained five-year-old extended his winning sequence to 13 when winning the Group 1 Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup in February, and now totals 16 wins from 17 starts. Hong Kong Racing Tips: Lor Ready with Savvy chances at the Valley Frankie Lor is chasing the trainers' championship leader John Size. BANK on high-flying Frankie Lor to close the gap on current trainers’ championship leader John Size when racing resumes at Happy Valley in Hong Kong on Wednesday. The 55-year-old trainer, in only his fourth season, is currently one away from his half century of winners for the campaign and is trailing Size by a fast-diminishing margin of eight. The former assistant trainer to Size sends eight raiders to the inner-city track and will surely be...

IT WASN’T that long ago that talk about reigning champion jockey Zac Purton retaining his title was out of the question, with Joao Moreira ‘over the hill and faraway’. In the early weeks of February, Moreira had a decisive lead of 30 and was riding winners for fun, making the most of his partnerships with leading trainers Caspar Fownes and John Size. In the last month, however, the pendulum has slowly but surely swung in Purton’s favour. Since the beginning of Ma...

Hong Kong Racing Tips: Danny Shum to continue red-hot form Danny Shum has been in red-hot form recently. BANK on trainer Danny Shum to continue his red-hot streak of winning form when racing resumes at Happy Valley on Thursday. With 29 winners to his name since the start of the year, Shum has visited the winners’ circle at least once at nine of the last 10 race-meetings. Currently lying third in the trainers’ championship table with 48 wins, only six behind leaders Caspar Fownes and John Size, he is guaranteed to smash his own record tally of 54 winners set six years ago....
