An Oconee County school resource officer was fired last week after the sheriff was informed the deputy was part of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security. Homeland Security agents informed Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw on March 11 they have an open investigation on Towery for criminal sexual misconduct with a minor under 16, according to Cpl. John Towery's S.C. Criminal Justice Academy file. Towery, who was the SRO at Fair-Oak Elementary School in Townville, was fired last Thursday, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said.
