Australia has supported Vietnam’s third rotation for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), airlifting Vietnamese defence members and equipment back to the home country, a move to consolidate the two countries’ bilateral ties.

Australia’s DefenceConnect has reported that peacekeeping forces of both sides have collaborated in the UNMISS, with Australia airlifting Vietnamese defence members and equipment late in March.
The airlift took place onboard a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) C-17A Globemaster, which also transported new members and equipment to replace the Vietnamese UNMISS Level Two Field ....

Australia continues support for Vietnam's peacekeeping commitments

Australia has supported Vietnam’s contribution to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) by airlifting Vietnamese military personnel and equipment.
A Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) C-17A Globemaster provided the airlift during late March and late April, allowing Vietnam to rotate its UNMISS Level‑Two Field Hospital contingent.
Chief of Joint Operations Command, Lieutenant General Greg Bilton, said the Australian Defence Force’s work alongside Vietnam demonstrates the close ties between our two countries.
“Vietnam is an important partner for Australia in the Indo-Pacific, and I am proud the ADF has supported their deployment to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan,” Lieutenant General Bilton said. ....

Iraqi PM orders increased security after weekend of attacks

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi ordered security forces to increase operations against militants after deadly attacks that officials blamed on ISIS.
Mr Al Kadhimi, who is also commander-in-chief of the armed forces, issued the directives at meeting convened late on Sunday after attacks on security troops in central and northern Iraq claimed at least 18 lives on Friday and Saturday.
These included “revitalising intelligence and security efforts, reactivating pre-emptive operations to confront ISIS terrorist gangs’ movements, drying up their sources and destroying their sleeper cells”, his office said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Iraqi officials said they were carried out by ISIS militants. ....

Where's the combined joint headquarters in northern Australia?

Have you ever heard of Combined Joint Headquarters (CJHQ) Top End? Before you go racing to Google, it doesn’t exist! Yet Australia and its partners need such an arrangement. It’s time to leverage our strategic geography and make a bold commitment to maritime security and multilateral military cooperation by establishing just this kind of headquarters. At the very least, a CJHQ in northern Australia could help to coordinate humanitarian assistance and disaster responses in a region facing more frequent and intense weather events.
In the 2020 defence strategic update, the government committed to invest ‘approximately $270 billion over the coming decade in new and upgraded Defence capabilities’ in order to ‘project military power and deter actions against us’. Unfortunately, there’s little mention of how the Australian Defence Force will command and control all these new capabilities. ....
