Lava from a large volcanic eruption in Iceland appeared to be flowing away from the only town in the area, offering hope that homes and lives would be spared.
Lava is emerging from a crack in the earth's surface that is around 3.5km (two miles) long and has grown rapidly. The Icelandic Meteorological Office has warned the nearby town of Grindavik may be at risk. You can watch live footage of the eruption below.
