Gas line broken in FD | News, Sports, Jobs

A natural gas line was broken in Fort Dodge late Monday morning, but no evacuations were necessary. The incident was reported at 11:27 a.m. in the 400 block of North 18th Street. Fire Department Lt. Jon Schreck said an excavation crew hit what appeared to be a 2-inch diameter gas distribution line. He said firefighters using metering equipment detected some gas near the hole in the ground. He said no gas was detected in any of the nearby homes. Firefighters were on the scene for about half an hour. MidAmerican Energy crews were there through the afternoon making repairs.
