The dominant team in the WHL’s Central Division during the 2020-21 season wrapped up their campaign in style on Thursday night.
The Edmonton Oil Kings finished off their campaign with an impressive 20-2-0-1 mark at Co-op Place in Medicine Hat as they came away with a 3-0 shutout over the Medicine Hat Tigers.
While the Oil Kings were able to capture their third straight Central Division title, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that they wouldn’t be able to showcase their squad in the playoffs for the second straight spring after reaching the Eastern Conference in 2019 before falling to the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Medicine Hat Tigers had a five-game winning streak snapped with a 5-4 shootout loss to the Calgary Hitmen on Monday night at Co-op Place.
After taking the first two games of a weekend set, the Tigers fell short of the sweep in the third round of the sudden-death skills competition.
Calgary took hold of the early momentum when Sean Tschigerl gave the Hitmen a lead eight minutes into the game. That momentum didn’t last long though, as Corson Hopwo beat Hitmen goaltender Jack McNaughton to knot it up two minutes later.

Arshdeep Bains sealed the comeback win in overtime, beating
Jack McNaughton on a two-on-one. McNaughton had been drawn out of the net by
Ben King and Bains had a wide-open cage to pot the winner.
“Les brought it up the ice, Bainsy (Bains) got on it and I saw a two-on-one,” said Ben King. “Bainsy fed it over, I couldn’t get a clear shot so I just tried to give it back to him.
