If a U.S. military helicopter pilot could time-travel from the year 1990 to today, that displaced pilot probably wouldn't recognize modern cockpits. Instead of switches and buttons, today's platforms increasingly use sleek displays and customizable dashboards, depending on the mission. Open systems and modular architecture are behind much of this shift.
“We were able to find some efficiencies [in the supplemental] that allowed us to buy small quantities of Iron Fist,” Maj. Gen. Glenn Dean, the service’s Program Executive Officer for Ground Combat Systems told Breaking Defense.
“My brigade combat team was responsible for a third of Iraq, hell, everything from drinking chai to chasing Iranians. That's not the future,” said Army Futures Command Gen. James Rainey.
