Cassville Kindergarten screenings upcoming
Cassville offers two types of kindergarten classes for kindergarten age-eligible students. Kinder Academy, as well as traditional kindergarten, are available to students who will be 5 years old by July 31. Kinder Academy is a two-year kindergarten program available for select students who may have not had exposure to school social skills (preschool experience, developmental readiness, motor skills, etc.), who would benefit from a smaller class size (no more than 15 students) or who have late birthdays (typically March-July). Screening results, parental recommendations, preschool teacher recommendations, and Parent As Teachers parent educator observations will be used to potentially fill student spots. Cassville will be screening all kindergarten age-eligible students on April 19 and April 21 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cassville. Enter through the South Entrance door across from Dr. Dale Assing’s office. Please call the Primary office at 417-847-2445 to schedule an appointment. Parents or guardians will need to bring the following items with on the day of screening: Child’s birth certificate, child’s shot records, proof of residency and parent or guardian’s driver’s license.

Second notice assessments to be mailed
Barry County Assessor Sherry L. Smith has announced that the second notice reminders for the 2021 Personal Property and Business Assessment Lists are scheduled to be mailed out soon. The second notice reminders will be mailed in the form of a post card. Original assessment lists that were mailed out on Jan. 4, are due by March 1. However, people still have time to file their list online or personally turn it in at the Assessor’s Office without receiving a late assessment penalty, providing the list is received in the office by March 31. Those who did not receive an assessment list in January, or received a second notice reminder from the Assessor’s Office, should contact the office immediately at 417-847-2613 to be properly assessed before the final late assessment penalty deadline. New County residents not receiving a form, need to call or visit the Assessor’s Office. Anyone with questions or concerns may contact the Assessor’s Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local church celebrating World Missions Sunday
The Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church will observe World Missions Sunday on Feb. 28, with special guests Tyler and Emily Brantley of Conway, Ark. The BMAA missionaries will share their plans at 10 a.m. about going to Argentina. Tyler Brantley will be preaching during the Sunday morning worship service at 11 a.m. Everyone is cordially invited to attend the services. The church is located at 16722 Hwy. 248, about five miles east of Cassville. For more information, people may call Pastor Billy Chesshir at 501-538-6261.   
Voter registration ends March 10
The last day to register to vote is March 10 for those who are not current registered voters of Barry County and who wish to vote in the April 6 General Municipal Election. People may register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office; the Monett Chamber of Commerce; or the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. People who have moved and not updated their address, or had a name change, should notify the office. Absentee is ongoing at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to the office of: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to: 417-847-5311. The office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee, and signature. Those who live in the Shell Knob or Monett area may go to the Shell Knob Chamber or Monett Chamber Office and fill out the absentee application. Office staff will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s office. Absentee applications are also available at sos.mo.gov.
