Judicial watchdog group Judges Matter says it is concerned that Eastern Cape judge president Selby Mbenenge, who stands accused of sexual harassment, may be getting “special, favourable” treatment from the Judicial Services Commission. This follows the JSC’s decision not to recommend that he be suspended, despite being investigated for gross judicial misconduct in the form of sexual harassment of a high court judge’s secretary at the Makhanda high court.
I argued previously on these pages that the Judicial Service Commission had shown itself incapable of dealing with the challenge of judging our country’s judges.
