lfujimoto@mauinews.com WAILUKU A California man arrested in an operation targeting online sexual predators was allowed to return home while his case is pending, after a $300,000 bench warrant was rescinded last month. Ryan Fu, 28, was ordered to surrender his passport to the prosecutor’s office within a week of returning to California. He also was ordered to appear by videoconference for his pretrial conference June 28 in 2nd Circuit Court. As a “geeky kind of guy” described by his attorney, “you should be able to figure it out,” Judge Rhonda Loo told Fu. He was among seven men arrested March 12 to 14 in “Operation Keiki Shield 7,” which was run by police working with state and federal law enforcement officers. ....

lfujimoto@mauinews.com WAILUKU A Molokai man who said he was running a hunting guide business when police seized five rifles from a garage was sentenced Wednesday to a five-month jail term as part of four years’ probation. As a felon since 1995, Eugene Albino, 53, wasn’t allowed to possess firearms, 2nd Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo noted in imposing the sentence. “With those firearms being within your reach, you’re definitely breaking the law,” she told Albino. “They should have been stored somewhere else. “Once you’re a felon, you’re a felon. You can’t erase it.” Albino had pleaded no contest to an amended charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Twelve other charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement recommending probation and no additional jail for Albino. ....
lfujimoto@mauinews.com WAILUKU A Kihei man who said he had both used and sold drugs was taken into custody to serve a two-year jail term after police seized heroin, marijuana and cocaine in searches of him and his residence. The jail term was imposed Wednesday as part of 10 years’ probation for William Key, 43, who was arrested after police executed the search warrants Aug. 3, 2016. “You hold the key to everything,” 2nd Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo said in sentencing Key. “I can put you in the lock position or the open position. I’m putting you in the lock position for two years.” ....
