Paintings on Stone: Science and the Sacred 1530-1800 Paintings on Stone: Science and the Sacred 1530-1800 focuses on a little-known aspect of Renaissance and Baroque art—paintings made using stone surfaces in place of panel or canvas. The exhibition focuses on the creative and unusual ways in which artists employed stone surfaces in the creation of their paintings. Paintings on Stone is the result of nearly 15 years of study and discovery by Judith Mann, the Museum’s senior curator for European art to 1800. This exhibition is on view through May 15. Advanced tickets recommended.
