A new program funded by The Nature Conservancy in Maine and Tree Street Youth gives vulnerable communities the opportunity to experience the healing power of nature.

Lise Pelletier, Hannah Pingree, and Julia Sleeper-Whiting were presented with the 2022 Deborah Morton Award, which recognizes distinguished Maine women who have made an exceptional impact through their careers and public service or leadership in civic, cultural, or social causes.

Comprised of Tree Street Youth, Lewiston Recreation, Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maine and the Root Cellar, the Armory Hoops League based out of the Lewiston Armory is already a hit among participants.

Tree Street Youth was founded a decade ago by two recent college grades. Since then, the youth empowerment organization has grown from a summer camp into a year-round initiative rooted in radical accessibility — starting with its Lewiston headquarters.
