FIH proposes cash payout of NT$12.39 per share

Formosa International Hotels Corp (FIH, 晶華國際酒店集團) yesterday proposed to distribute a cash dividend of NT$12.39 per share although the COVID-19 pandemic continues to weigh on its business operations.
The dividend scheme followed the Taipei-based hospitality provider’s announcement that net profit last year increased more than threefold to NT$2.24 billion (US$78.46 million), while consolidated revenue fell 9.08 percent to NT$4.93 billion from a year earlier.
The financial results translated into earnings per share of NT$17.09, up 182.35 percent from a year earlier, company data showed.

Outbreaks taking a toll on hospitality

Domestic outbreaks of COVID-19 this month have cast a shadow over the business outlook for hotels and restaurants as cancelations rose ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the high season for the industry.
Formosa International Hotels Corp (FIH, 晶華國際酒店集團) said that 5 percent of bookings had been canceled at its restaurants and 10 percent at its banquet facilities, while some year-end banquets are being postponed until after the Lunar New Year holiday.
Additionally, 13 percent of room reservations had been canceled for this month and next, mainly by independent domestic tourists, while reservations by group tours had not been affected.

Two major hotel operators post a drop in revenue

Formosa International Hotels Corp (FIH, 晶華國際酒店集團) and FDC International Hotels Corp (雲品國際), two major hotel operators based in Taipei, reported that their revenue slumped last month from a year earlier due to COVID-19-related capacity limits and social distancing requirements.
FIH, which operates the Regent Taipei (晶華酒店), the Silks Place (晶英酒店), Just Sleep Hotel & Resort (捷絲旅) and several independent restaurants, posted a combined revenue of NT$357 million (US$12.73 million) for last month, down 28.55 percent from a year earlier, the group said last week.
Capacity reduction requirements affected revenue recovery, even though the number of local COVID-19 infections has dwindled, it said.

Taipei, Jan. 12 (CNA) Eighteen hotels in Taiwan were found last year to have been in violation of food safety standards and were fined accordingly, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Tuesday.
The FDA said it tested 215 food products at 208 hotels between August and October last year, and checked whether their food services were in compliance with two food management systems -- Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP).
