Sandringham Dragons talent Jacob Edwards is rated as the most likely candidate to go at no.1 in next month’s draft, but is also tipped to go in the first round of the National Draft if he opts for that path. Twomey, who expects around 15 picks total to be made on June 2, says Edwards is yet to make a call on whether he will nominate for mid-season or wait for another opportunity later this year.

Simpson, who called time on his 342-game career at the end of last season, revealed on Monday that he would be willing to join a club in finals contention. "I still wish I was playing, like 100 per cent,” Simpson told the Dyl and Friends podcast. "In the back of my head I’m like, 'just imagine if someone now with the mid-season draft' and all that sort of stuff. I’m pretty fit still.

"I wouldn’t close off my views on whether anyone who just retired could play.”
