Illegal buildings in Kaghan, Naran to be razed - Newspaper

ABBOTTABAD: Director General Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) Asif Khan has said an anti-encroachment drive would be launched to remove illegal constructions along the N-15 (expressway) and from the bed of River Kunhar to make the Kaghan and Naran valleys more attractive for local and foreign tourists.
He was speaking during a meeting called by Hazara division commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud here the other day.
The KDA director general said owners of hotels and restaurants had been asked not to throw garbage into the River Kunhar. He said steps were afoot to protect the national parks in the valleys, manage traffic, rehabilitate the Karakoram highway and other roads. ....

This refers to the article ‘Kurmat valley: the looming crisis’ (July 01). The environmental threat to this beautiful valley needs to be addressed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government at the earliest. The authorities should also take notice of the problems that are being faced by thousands of tourists who visit tourist resorts in Azad Kashmir, Kaghan and Swat. Usually, following massive landslides, these areas witness severe traffic jams due to which families remain stuck for long hours.
There are also complaints of substandard services at different hotels. Jeeps plying on dilapidated roads are uncomfortable for travelling. Also, there is hardly any arrangement for garbage disposal. The government should act to save the tourism industry and tourist resorts from further devastation. ....

Three held for illegal fishing in Siren River - Newspaper

MANSEHRA: The fishery department has launched a crackdown on the illegal hunting of mulla and other endangered fishes in the Siren River.
“The action is meant to check the use of electric current and explosives to catch fish,” inspector of the fisheries department Sadia Noor told reporters in Dadar area of Siren valley on Saturday.
Led by Ms Noor, a team of the department arrested three men for illegally fishing in the Siren River in Dadar and Sum areas and fined them heavily.
“We have been issuing permits for fishing with the help of hooks, so killing fishes by electric current and explosives can’t be allowed,” Ms Noor said. ....

MANSEHRA: District administration has lauded the role of girl students, teacher and district education officer (females) for their contribution to the Prime Minister’s Clean and Green Pakistan initiatives.
“I have no words to appreciate the achievements of the district education department in promoting the friendly educational environment for girl students, who contributed enormously to the Clean and Green Pakistan initiatives,” Dr Qasim Ali Khan told a prize distribution ceremony organised by district education department (females) at the Government Girls High School No 2 here on Friday.
He said that girl students had planted around 10,000 saplings before the prime minister’s arrival in Kaghan valley. ....

MANSEHRA: In line with the prime minister’s clean and green tourism vision, the district administration on Wednesday imposed a ban on all sorts of commercial and domestic constructions in Kaghan valley with immediate effect.
“I Dr Qasim Ali Khan, the deputy commissioner Mansehra, herby impose a ban on all types of construction in Kaghan valley without prior approval of Kaghan Development Authority,” the order promulgated under section 144 of Crpc said.
It further said that there was a mushroom (unplanned) construction of the commercial and non-commercial buildings in the Kaghan valley without getting a no-objection-certificate from Kaghan Development Authority. ....
