Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala sent a letter to Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy asking him to prove his government’s majority before 6 pm on Friday. The letter was written after the Karnataka Assembly defied the governor’s trust vote deadline and continued the session even after 1:30 pm. Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar said “unless the discussion is complete, you cannot press for division (of votes for floor test).â€
The Supreme Court bench, headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi, has asked the Karnataka Speaker to inform the court of the developments by Friday, when the court will resume its hearing on rebel MLAs plea. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will appear before a metropolitan magistrate s court today for the hearing of a criminal defamation suit filed against him by Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank and its chairman Ajay Patel.
All eyes are now on Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar who holds the key to the future of the Congress-JDS coalition government which is on the verge of collapse.
