Six killed while disposing of explosives meant for quarrying in Karnataka
At least six people were killed after an explosion occurred in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur early on Tuesday. According to the police, the incident occurred when the gelatin sticks they were trying to dispose of exploded accidentally at a stone quarry site in a village. The incident comes close on the heels of a similar blast at a quarry site in Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's hometown of Shivamogga on January 22, which left six dead.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar, who represents the Chikkaballapur constituency visited the spot and said the bodies of the victims were badly mutilated and scattered all over the place.

The incident took place at Hirenagavalli near Peresandra on Tuesday. Quarrying was stopped by the police on February 7 following complaints from the locals against the rampant use of gelatin sticks.

Chikkaballapur: Six people were killed when the gelatin sticks they were trying to dispose of exploded accidentally at a stone quarry site in a village here early on Tuesday, police said.
The incident comes close on the heels of a similar blast at a quarry site in the state’s chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s hometown of Shivamogga on January 22, which left six dead.

In view of the recent massive explosion near Shivamogga, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Saturday said that illegal quarrying or mining will not be allowed in the state and strict action will be taken against the defaulters.
The move comes after the deadly explosion at a stone quarry near Shivamogga that claimed five innocent lives on Thursday night. CM Yediyurappa on Saturday inspected the accident spot and also informed that Deputy Commissioner (of the district), Member of Parliament and Mines Minister have already visited the spot.

SHIVAMOGGA: An explosion of a truckload of explosives, suspected to be meant for mining, killed at least eight people in Karnataka's Shivamogga district on Thursday night and sent shockwaves in neighbouring areas, police said.
The massive explosion took place near a gravels and boulders crushing facility around 10.30 pm, sending shockwaves not only in Shivamogga, but also in neighbouring Chikkamagaluru and Davangere districts.
