WASHINGTON (AP) -- The fatal shooting of a middle-school student has sparked public uproar as the nation's capital struggles with rising tensions about
13-year-old Karon Blake was shot to death by an adult in the neighborhood after the shooter said he witnessed Karon tampering with cars in the area.
A community meeting drew more than 300 angry citizens, packing a community center adjacent to Brookland Middle School, which Karon Blake attended.
Karon Blake, a 13-year-old Washington, D.C. resident was shot and killed on Saturday morning, but residents are furious police have no arrested a suspect.
D.C. community leaders are enlisting the Sixth Commandment -- "Thou Shalt Not kill" -- as part of a campaign to combat a surge of deadly violence that has claimed six lives to start the new year, doubling the total from the same period last year.
